Klatcher.com
and Camille Carida announced today the launch of Lickitman.com, a new web comic
that changes the way we view comics and superheroes. There are very few female creators in the
comic world. It has been male dominated
since its notable beginnings in the 1930’s, but with the influence of Manga and
Hollywood films based on graphic novels, more and more girls are going to this
form for their entertainment.
Camille
Carida, creator of Lick-It Man, comments: "Comics are for boys only?
Forget it. Lick-It Man is the first superhero made for girls who also gets the
boy’s attention. He’s awesome. And he gets it…men and women alike totally
relate."
With
the changing needs of the times, our needs for a new superhero changes as
well. Being able to leap tall buildings
is not enough, everyday living has become much more complicated and demanding,
especially for women who are now trying to have it all—career, family, and
being a beautiful lover.
Carida
says, “Women today know what they want but also face the task of trying to do
it all. Lick-It Man gets it and is a
superhero that does 2 things simultaneously; he serves as a role model for men
everywhere and assists women in reaching new heights of achievement. And add a third element—we laugh the whole
way through.”
"We
wanted to change the way people consume comics online. Lick-it Man is an
awesome idea, a great visual experience and perfect example of what a creative
author can achieve with today's technology.”, says Johannes Bhakdi, social
media technology wizard and CEO of Klatcher.
Klatcher.com allows comic
makers, authors and producers to build a website that spreads their content
into the social web and draws traffic from disparate social networks, blogs and
content sharing sites. By providing a new way to publish multi-page web
comics, the platform heavily improves the impact and experience of web comics
for visitors.
The
lick-it man web comic is available for free on the site and is being published
in 12 chapters over the next weeks, with the first 6 chapters available as of
today.

Camille
comments:” I love that I can get my project out directly to the people quickly
and easily without having to go through the “middlemen” who are often looking
for a way to say ‘no’ rather than ‘yes”.
Making comics, art, films in these times is hard enough, so being at the
helm of publishing and promoting my work is very powerful and fun. Without Klatcher, Lick-It Man would still be
sleeping in my drawer. Klatcher is the
perfect platform for my project.”
“Our goal was simple: to provide comic makers
and other authors with an easy, powerful solution to publish, promote and
utilize their work”, says Johannes Bhakdi, CEO of Klatcher.com.
“Artists,
filmmakers, creative people by nature want people to see their work, be
influenced and entertained by it.
They’re natural risk takers whereas publishers and editors, having to
worry about costs and books sitting on a shelf, are often limited in their
vision. With Klatcher, I don’t have to
wait for someone else to say ‘yes’, I can do it myself and I love that. Plus the technology Johannes and the Klatcher
team have created is quite extraordinary.
The interactive nature of the Klatcher.com platform lets me connect
directly with people and is a great way to find collaborators. We’re ready to get started on new material in
the Lick-It Universe and plan to have a contest to find our next illustrator
and have our fans suggest new characters.”, elaborates Camille.
“With
Klatcher, I feel the freedom and excitement of the creative process and have
found the best way to promote my project.”
